Katy Morgan leaving Fox 19 News

Sheila Gray, Ben Swann, Brian Giesenschlag…. and now Katy Morgan will be leaving WXIX-TV.

The morning meteorologist told her Fox 19 bosses that she’s accepted a job as chief meteorologist in a larger market. She will be gone from Fox 19 (and her WLW-AM weather updates) after her contract expires Dec. 31. ,

“We certainly don’t blame her for taking his opportunity, because we have a chief (Steve Horstmeyer) and we are very happy with him,” General Manager Bill Lanesey tells me.

Morgan hasn't responded to my emails. She is waiting for her new employer to announce her hiring. At her request, Lanesey didn't mention her new station when he told staffers about her departure.

Morgan has been a TV meteorologist for 7-1/2 years. Former news director Matt Miller hired her in September 2010 from WMBF-TV in Myrtle Beach, where they had worked together. The 2006 University of Missouri did weather for KSNT-TV in Topeka, Kansas, before going to Myrtle Beach.

Fox 19 will begin a search for a meteorologist to work weekend mornings and some weekday mornings.
