Skillet are an American Christian rock band formed in Memphis, Tennessee, in 1996 by vocalist John Cooper and guitarist Ken Steorts.

The current lineup consists of: John Cooper (lead vocals, bass and acoustic guitar), Korey Cooper (keyboards, synthesizer, rythm guitar and backing vocals), Jen Ledger (drums and backing vocals) and Seth Morrison (lead guitar).

Foundation and first years
Skillet formed in 1996 with two members: John Cooper, former vocalist for Tennessee progressive rock band Seraph, and Ken Steorts, former guitarist for Urgent Cry. The two bands met through touring together, but those bands disbanded soon after, so John and Ken's pastor encouraged them to form their own band as a side-project. Coming from different styles of rock music, they decided to name the experiment Skillet. After Trey McClurkin joined the band as a permanent drummer. Skillet is an American Christian rock band formed in Memphis, Tennessee, in 1996. The band currently consists of husband and wife duo John Cooper (lead vocals, bass) and Korey Cooper (rhythm guitar, keyboards, backing vocals) along with Jen Ledger (drums, co-lead vocals) and Seth Morrison (lead guitar). The band has released twelve studio albums, two of which, Collide and Comatose, received Grammy nominations.[1] Two of their albums, Comatose and Awake, are certified Platinum and Double Platinum respectively by the RIAA, while Rise and Unleashed are certified Gold as of June 29, 2020[update].[2] Four of their songs, "Monster", "Hero", "Awake and Alive", and "Feel Invincible", are certified Multi-Platinum (5× Platinum, 3× Platinum, and 2× Platinum, respectively), while another three, "Whispers in the Dark", "Comatose", and "The Resistance" are certified Platinum, and another five, "Rebirthing", "Not

Ken Steorts is a founding member of Skillet, who was in the band from 1996-1999.

Ken, founding guitarist of the Christian rock band Skillet, is the visionary Founder and President of VISIBLE SCHOOL. Ken left Skillet's ministry in 1999 to start VISIBLE SCHOOL as a college for creative students to excel in their craft while being in a supportive and nurturing Christian community, thus establishing the school philosophy of 1/3 academic, 1/3 vocational, and 1/3 spiritual growth.
