Staff governor biography

Governor Biographies

Wendy Banner – Foundation Governor
I moved to North Yorkshire in 2016.  Christian values have been at the core of my whole life. When I started school I went to a Church School kindergarten, continuing to a Church of England Primary and an upper school which held Christian assembly every day. I was confirmed into the Church of England when I was sixteen and I have worked in church Sunday Schools for a long time.

I studied commercial subjects at school. I’ve never moved much with jobs but did finish my working life as Company Secretary. So accounts, organising people and events have been a major part of my life.

I’m a member of Wykeham church council and feel strongly that as a church we should support our local schools as much as we possibly can, looking for opportunities for school to use the church building whever we can and welcoming pupils into church on a regular basis. I'm pleased to lead a Collective Worship at Wykeham CE Primary school each week.

Governor Biographies

Staff Governors are elected by school staff and can be teachers or support staff. Headteacher William is a staff governor by virtue of his office.

William Dean

William is Headteacher of Highgate Primary School and therefore also a governor. At our meetings we hold him to account and keep him on his toes by asking challenging questions. He reports back to governors regularly on the curriculum, budget, resources and progress against the school development plan. When he’s not in school or at governors meetings he’ll either be in his garden, walking Horace, watching cricket or, if he’s really lucky, in his caravan.

Profession and Job Roles
Having spent the majority of my teaching time in Early Years and Key Stage 1, I worked as a class teacher, phase leader and senior leader in Sandwell before moving to Stafford to carry out a similar role. This experience gives me an insight and understanding into strategic school development; specifically regarding curriculum design, high quality teaching strategies and maximising pupil progress. Since my previous role as a teacher, I have transitioned into Higher Education where I am involved with Initial Teacher Training (Primary Education) at the University of Wolverhampton.

About Me
Originally a northerner, I have spent the past 11 years living in various areas around the West Midlands before finally settling down in Stafford with my partner and my step-daughter. In my spare time, I spend a lot of time with friends and family, playing a reasonable amount of football and taking my dog for walks in the woods!
