Born in Paris, France, to a filmmaker father and a costume designer mother, Louis Leterrier won several awards for his short films before moving to the U.S. to study filmmaking at New York University. His first job in the film industry was as a production assistant on Alien: Resurrection (1997). Leterrier returned to France, where he worked as Luc Besson’s assistant on The Messenger: The Story of Joan of Arc (1999).

At 26, Leterrier made his feature directorial debut in Europe with the first of the Transporter (2002) films quickly followed by the cult actioner Unleashed (2005), starring Jet Li and the sequel to The Transporter. His Hollywood career began when he helmed the blockbusters The Incredible Hulk (2008), starring Edward Norton, the remake of Clash of the Titans (2010) and Now You See Me (2013). In 2015, he directed Sacha Baron Cohen in The Brothers Grimsby.
