Mangaluru, Jan 5: Renowned Kannada writer and intellectual, Norbert D'Souza, popularly known as Dr Na D'Souza, passed away at the age of 87, a private hospital in Mangaluru after a prolonged illness. A celebrated figure in Kannada literature and cinema, Dr D'Souza's demise marks the end of an era, leaving behind a legacy that continues to inspire generations.
Dr Na D'Souza was known for his versatility as a writer, producing an array of novels, short stories, essays, and plays. His works often delved into social justice, human rights, and the complexity of human relationships. In addition to his literary achievements, he made significant contributions to Kannada cinema, where many of his literary works were adapted into critically acclaimed films.

SHIVAMOGGA: Na D'Souza, a distinguished Kannada novelist and writer, passed away at a hospital in Mangaluru on Sunday. He was 87.
He was admitted to Father Muller Hospital due to age-related illness. He breathed his last at 7.50 pm. He is survived by his wife, two sons and a daughter.
Na D’Souza’s mortal remains will be kept at his residence in Sagar on Monday afternoon for public to pay homage, his son Naveen D’Souza announced on Facebook.
Born on June 6, 1937, in Sagar in Shivamogga district, he is a prolific author with a literary career spanning several decades.
His extensive body of work includes over 40 novels, numerous short stories, plays, and children's literature, totalling more than 94 published books.
Throughout his career, Na D'Souza received numerous accolades, including the Karnataka Sahitya Academy Award in 1993 and the Karnataka Rajyotsava Award in 1998. He was also honored with an honorary Doctorate (D.Lit) by Kuvempu University.

Writer Na D’Souza passes away at 87
The 87-year-old writer was admitted to Mangaluru's Father Muller hospital on Jan 3 night following kidney, heart, blood pressure and prostrate complications. He died at 7.49pm due to kidney failure.
Norbert D'Souza was popularly known across Karnataka as Na D'Souza and authored more than 200 works in different creative genres ranging from children's literature to plays and novels.
A few of his stories have been made into films, including the eponymous national awards winning best film ‘Dweepa', which was directed by Girish Kasaravalli.
Born in 1937 at Sagara in Shivamogga district, D'Souza completed education at Sahyadri college in Shivamogga and later joined the public works department as typist.
