Sandra Brown has been among the most prolific and commercially viable authors of romance and mainstream fiction throughout the 1980s and 1990s. Her current books contain many of the elements associated with the romance genre where she became established first, but also feature traits common to crime and political thrillers and mysteries. She is a rare example of a romance writer who has been able to make a successful transition into mainstream novels.

A native Texan, Brown was the oldest of five daughters of a father who wrote editorials for the Fort Worth Star-Telegram and a mother who counseled emotionally disturbed children. Brown attended Texas Christian University, Oklahoma State University, and the University of Texas at Arlington, although she never graduated. Sandra Brown is the author of more than sixty New York Times bestsellers, including STING (2016), FRICTION (2015), MEAN STREAK (2014), DEADLINE(2013), & LOW PRESSURE (2012), LETHAL (2011).

Brown began her writing career in 1981 and since then has published over seventy novels, bringing the number of copies of her books in print worldwide to upwards of eighty million. Her work has been translated into over thirty languages.

Sandra Brown,OBE[1] (born 7 January 1949) is a Scottish campaigner and leading expert on child protection issues. She has also achieved wide recognition as a writer, broadcaster and actress.

Biography

The daughter of Mary and Alexander Gartshore, Brown was brought up in Coatbridge, Lanarkshire, Scotland.[2]

Brown was educated at Coatbridge High School, Hamilton College and the Open University which awarded her an Honours degree in 1978 and a Masters in Education in 1996. She has worked as a primary school deputy headteacher and as a senior lecturer. She now runs her own business, Potential Plus, providing personnel training for companies and organisations. She has been married to her husband, Ronnie, for many years. They live in Edinburgh and have a son, a daughter and three grandchildren.

As well as campaigning against child sexual abuse, Brown has run a helpline for victims of workplace bullying in Scotland.
