Ustad Sultan Khan (India) is a renowned player of the sarangi. He is known for his melodic control and capabilities. He is one of the list members of Tabla Beat Science.
He has taught big-time music producers such as Sukshinder Shinda and Ram Gopal Varma (Whos Has Played It On His Deyyam Film) to play the sarangi. He is also the Ustad of Deeyah the Norwegian born singer, he performed on her debut album I Alt Slags Lys in 1992

Sultan is from a mixed family, with a Swiss mother (Jaun) and a Pakistani father (Ali Khan) (Ghori). He went to Karachi Grammar School and then attended the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH) studying Electronic engineering. Having refocused his studies he received a BBA (Finance & Marketing) from South Eastern University. Next he got the MA (Econ) Finance degree from University of Manchester, having the coveted Five Star research rating in Finance. Sultan did not do a PhD, as academic expertise in Islamic Finance & Economics was limited then. Sultan worked in the investment banking division of a major American bank focusing on emerging markets, based out of London. He quickly rose through the ranks and went on to head the corporate banking of a regional bank, based out of Dubai. He has held senior banking roles and was part of credit and interest rate setting committees. UstadSultan Khan (15 April 1940 – 27 November 2011) was an Indian sarangi player and classical vocalist belonging to Sikar Gharana. He was one of the founding members of the Indian fusion group Tabla Beat Science, with Zakir Hussain and Bill Laswell. He was awarded the Padma Bhushan, India's third highest civilian honour, in 2010.[1][2][3]
Early life
Sultan Khan was born on 15 April 1940 in Sikar District, Rajasthan, a princely state in the Indian Empire.[1][4] He learned sarangi from his father Ustad Gulab Khan.[5][6]
Career
Sultan Khan started his career at the All India Radio station, Rajkot in Gujarat as a 20-year-old boy in 1960. After having spent eight years in Rajkot very happily, he got a chance to play with Lata Mangeshkar during her visit to Rajkot. She asked him to play the sarangi while she sang. This proved a turning
