Stephen Herrod has been preaching the Gospel of Jesus Christ since he was 6 years old. It was a summer day in 2000 when Stephen was riding with his dad on the way to an usher board meeting when he declared to his dad, “the Spirit of the Lord has called me to preach and to lay hands on my dog Benji who bit me,” and that changed his life forever. He is now the Senior Pastor of Bethel Baptist Church, East in Detroit, MI. Prior to the call to Pastor, Stephen was a Youth Director, and over the years Stephen has served in a variety of ministry settings including Christian Non-Profit, Kids and Teen ministries, Mission Teams, Teaching Teams, Retreat Leader, and Pastoral Counseling.

These kinds of bios are troublesome. Over the past 40 years I have explored many biographical forms to describe myself and have never been satisfied, in part I think because I have a natural tendency against publicly applauding my accomplishments. And perhaps it is the root of that tendency that whenever I do list what I have accomplished, it always seems inadequate to what I could have done had I been clearer or more mature or possessed fewer limitations or started younger or contemplated more deeply. Buhner was first introduced to healers within his own family, including Leroy Burney, president of the Kentucky Medical Association and Surgeon General of the United States under Eisenhower and Kennedy. His most important influence was Elizabeth Lusterheide, a midwife and herbalist in southern Indiana in the early 1800s, and C.G. Harrod, his great grandfather who began practicing medicine in 1911, and who inspired Buhner to become the kind of healer for which, according to Buhner, American medicine no longer has a place.[1][2][3][self-published source?]

Buhner authored at least 23 books, scores of nonfiction articles, as well as fiction and poetry. His works focused on nature, sustainability, indigenous cultures, the environment, herbal medicine, Gaia hypothesis, and communication with nature. His book, The Lost Language of Plants, received a Nautilus and BBC Environ
