Florian Nicolle

Florian Nicolle (aka Neo) is a French born Graphic designer and Illustrator, currently employed by Nike, Puma, Warner Bros and a range of magazines. Her work looks effortless and natural, like she didn’t even need to try and happily this is exactly what she is going for, “I try to make every picture as fresh as the first paint stroke”. She certainly achieves this in all of her work.

I find the portraits easy on the eye because the colours used are largely greys and browns, with subtle strokes of colour here and there. Plus, I love the lack of outlines around the faces because it makes it seem like the person we are looking at is rushing past; we are only seeing a quick glimpse of them and I find this adds to the emotion each portrait shows. We get the sense that the people are not posing but have just been captured at a moment where their emotions are clear, and this gives them their honest, earthy, unpolished look that is so relatable. I think the text used in each painting gives depth and t

The Abstracted and Dynamic Works of Florian Nicolle

Freelance graphic designer and illustrator Florian Nicolle hails from Caen, France – a Northwestern city on the coast near Le Havre that was all but destroyed during WW2’s Battle of Normandy. His work is as dynamic and spontaneous as the modern street art movement that’s invaded Europe over the past couple of decades – fresh, bold strokes, splashes of realism that fade into abstraction, and simple, raw expression.

His talent hasn’t gone unnoticed – he’s got a huge client base now, with top guns such as Nike, Puma, Nokia, ESPN classic, EA Sports Games Studio, Los Angeles Times, Warner Bros, Harajuku Lovers (by Gwen Stephani), KHL, Tanishq… just to name a few. I’m looking forward to seeing more from this young talent.
