Richard Koz (typically credited as Rich and named so after) is an American actor and broadcaster known best for his potrayal of horror-movie host Svengoolie.
Early Life[]
Koz was born March 12th, 1952 in Park Ridge, Illinois. His father was a sheet-metal worker and his mother a housewife. He was raised in a Catholic household. Even though he felt shy as a kid, he was a class clown that received good marks[1].
He got his start in broadcasting at WMTH-FM, the high school radio station at Maine East in Park Ridge, Illinois. During high school, Koz played the trombone alongside future creative partner Doug Sharf, who played trumpet [2].
He later attended Northwestern University. To support himself, Koz worked at Jack in the Box[3].
Writing for the Original Svengoolie[]
WhenKoz ran out of money, he dropped out of college. He had begun following the Svengoolie program, hosted by Jerry G. Bishop. Koz had been a fan of Bishop's radio work, so he began sending him material for the show. He was not attempting to be hired, but Bishop thought he showed

Rich Koz (born March 12, 1952)[1] is an American actor and broadcaster best known for his portrayal of horror-movie host Svengoolie, as well as his early '90s children's cartoon showcase The Koz Zone. Koz is also the host of the syndicated Stooge-a-Palooza program. In 2021, he was inducted into the Rondo Hatton Classic Horror Awards' Monster Kid Hall of Fame.[2]
Beginnings
Koz got his start in broadcasting at WMTH-FM, the high school radio station at Maine East in Park Ridge, Illinois. While Koz was at Northwestern University, he sent the original Svengoolie, Jerry G. Bishop, material for the horror-movie program. Bishop subsequently invited Koz to join the show's staff.
