Escondido (band)
Escondido is an American indie folk band formed in Nashville, Tennessee in 2011 by Tyler James and Jessica Maros. They recorded their first album, The Ghost of Escondido, in November 2011 over a single day.[1][2] They debuted later that month at the Mercy Lounge in Nashville. Their album was released in February 2013,[3] with a video for the album's first single, "Black Roses", released on March 7.[4]
Escondido released their second album, Walking With a Stranger, on February 5, 2016, and started touring with The Lone Bellow[5][6][7] in support of the album in late February.[8]

“We had our first Pitchfork review about an Elliot Smith tribute we did, and they said, ‘One of the more interesting takes came from members of the younger generation who probably grew up after Elliot Smith passed away.’ We were like, ‘What are you talking about? Do you think we’re 15?’ I’m 35 years old!” laughs Escondido’s Tyler James. “You’re so old!” exclaims his partner in musical crime Jessica Maros. In fact, since unleashing their debut in 2013, Nashville’s Escondido, made of music-making duo Tyler James and Jessica Maros, have garnered millions of streams on Spotify alone, and have toured the land spreading their desert-esque brand of dusty Americana—Dusticana? We feel good about it. Now, the pair is gearing up for their first AmericanaFest appearance, and have a new album, Warning Bells, on the way.
“We can all relate to it I think; during the making of this album, there was so much change happening around us—the election, a new president, and a lot of different things around,” Maros explains of the timely-named album. “We had that title before everything started ha

Desert rock is born
Escondido at the core is Tennessee-based duo Jessica Maros and Tyler James. They’re critically acclaimed debut, “Ghost Of Escondido,” propelled them on to the national stage, which is being followed up by their sophomore effort, “Walking with a Stranger,” released earlier this month (on Feb. 5). The band is on the road in support of “Walking…” (though they’re driving) which will have them making a stop at The Music Hall in Portsmouth on Wednesday, Feb. 24 where they’ll open for The Lone Bellow.
The music they’re making is equal parts rousing and unique – a blend of desert folk melded seamlessly with a bit of rollicking, edgy, pop-weary honky tonk.
EDGE caught up with James to discuss the new record, the ongoing tour, and what the soundtrack sounds like in the van.
EDGE: You just had a new record hit! “Walking with a Stranger.” Tell us about it. What sorts of goals were on the table for this effort?
James: We just wanted to make a great record. We started by getting the songs as strong as possible over the course of a couple years ... demoing throughout.
